Introduction

From the beginning of creation of museum the part of the collections were art products. Soon the gallery workers started to realize that art collections need very different kind of taking care of and presentation, so they tried to develop specialized art-historical museum branch. Their aim was to build up united organization, set the competences and produce united web, part of which will be appropriate law, this was also one of the main tasks of Ministry of school and national enlightenment, after the birth of independent state in year 1918. This was realised much later, in second half of 40th years 20th century, when the developing of galleries, as we know them now started, due to decision of government authorities and the detailed and systematisation of those art works within the galleries.

Also the Art Gallery of Havlíčkův Brod, as well as the other Czech galleries – art museums, arise thanks to this complicated process of dividing. Its foundation was art collection from so called town gallery, divided from museum in year 1946. The collection included paintings and sculptures linked to the region, from regional artists. Discussions between regional department of galleries of National gallery and department of culture ONV Havlíčkův Brod was decided that Gallery of Havlíčkův Brod will take special place in newly developed national net of galleries, thanks to its specialization in modern Czech book illustration, drawings and graphics. Specialization was chosen thank to the tradition of exhibiting within the East Czech publishing house and it was also linked to the art competition which took place every year to the occasion of National festival of humour and satire “Haškova Lipnice”. The gallery looked – for short period after regional art collection, but after the establishing bases of new collection funds, the regional collection was returned to the museum department and gallery focused only on art products corresponding with appropriate given specialization.
